Why do I Write?

A few books from my shelf.  See any you recognize?
I love stories.  That's the heart of the matter right there.  Tell me a good tale that makes me think and feel and I'll dream about it for days or years after.  Short, long, happy, sad, true, fiction, movie, book - I love it all!  Some things I don't disagree with, but hey - it got me thinking and forming opinions so it was good for something.

Frequently throughout my slice of life, I've had scenes play out in my head.  I've met characters and given them questions of "what do you do if you're faced with..." and then I dream out the results.  Often times those scenes start to burn in my mind, I grow excited, and I can't think of anything else until I have taken that vivid image and scribbled it onto paper or typed it on a computer anditjustmakesmesohappywhenit'sfinally DONE!

Whew!

And I'd forget it on a flash drive for years and years until I find it randomly one day (yesterday) reread it and go "oh yeah!" and feel the joy all over again.

But this joy doesn't come without opposition.  Hence why I currently have nothing published.  Growing up, it was repeated at nausea that I needed to "get an education to get a good job to support your family".  Anything that had to do with the arts didn't fit this mold.  I learned early on that dreaming was for other people. So I stopped believing in my own passions to the point where hope hurt.  Physically.  Being truly excited made me nauseous.

...still working on that part, to be honest.

But then something changed.  I became friends with a person who believed in the power of "me" more than any other person.  Over years of working on myself, I'm finally at a point where I can pursue my passion of writing AND IT TERRIFIES ME.  But I'm doing it anyway, because what will I learn if I continue to hold myself back?  I have stories to share.  They excite me to think up and write down.  I've experienced so much from the efforts of other authors...maybe I have something special to share as well.

So I wrote for me.  Now, I'll write for you.  This isn't the beginning of my writing story.  It's the part where you come in.  I'm excited to see how our relationship grows.  Let's be friends.
